Beijing in my Eyes

Beijing is a special place to me. Not just because its the capital of China nor the most cultural place. Definitely not because its night life or food or anything physically attached to it.

I love Beijing because its the first city I ever lived in and its the opening window for me to know about China. Most importantly it's the place that let me meet my lovely wife. Although we were not meet in Beijing, in fact we only went to Beijing after our marriage. It's Beijing this city to let me finally find my love in China.

I stayed in the east which is the CBD area of Beijing and where most expatriates lives. Nice condos, fancy restaurants, eye-catching night clubs, etc. I had a perception that Beijing is just another big city like New York or Sydney or Tokyo......No no no no!! I was wrong, very wrong!!

My wife leaded me to know more about Beijing, know more about the city by her way of living there. And that was really opened my eyes. Now how I see Beijing is very different to how I saw It few years back. More importantly, I love it even more !!

Are You a 4x4 Nut?

You know you are a 4WD nut when you.....

1, Learn that there are real 4x4s, and there are sub-urban vehicles (SUVs).

2, Know that "best offroader on the road" is not a compliment.

3, Drive the stock SUV and think "it will last all of 5 minutes off the road".

4, Understand why spotlights are not just a fashion accessory.

5, Think that reverse spotlights are an excellent idea.

6, Feel that 100 litres of fuel sounds like a very limited range.

7, You think diesel (not petrol / gasoline) whenever someone says fuel.

8, Expect GPS coordinates to be part of all map directions.

9, Learn that a differential ("diff") is not just a mathematical equation.

10, Can explain the difference between limited diffs, slip diffs and locked diffs.

11, Find out that Air Lockers are not a storage system.

12, Learn the difference between leaf springs and coil springs.

13, Think of chassis enhancements in terms of raising, not lowering ground clearance.

14, Realise that sidesteps are not just for helping you climb into a vehicle.

15, Have the expectation that all 4x4 vehicles be taller than you are.

16, No longer amazed that a 12-volt powered winch can pull a 5000kg load.

17, Feel that money for a piece of rope ("recovery strap") is money well spent.

18, Know that the heavy piece of cloth across a winch line is not just for visibility.
19, Know a good 4x4 always has 6 tires, and not 4.

20, Know what an air compressor is and what is used for.

21, Learn that bumpers have multiple mount points and know their purposes.
22, Think carrying 2 to 3 times body weight in drinking water makes good sense.

23, Watch out of height limits in covered carparks and overhead barriers.

24, Own a snorkel and know the reasons why the 4x4 has one.

25, Understand why dual battery systems are required and the benefits of a deep-cycle SLA battery.

26, Think of performance in terms of traction and clearance, not speed and acceleration.

Are you one of us???

2012 Singapore F1GP

Here we come again in 2012. Great team, great race.

Singapore GP Ltd just signed another 5 years deal with F1 before the race. That means I will be coming back here for the next 5 years at least.

See you guys and gals on the track next year!

Officially Official

Once I am both CAMS and SMSA Accredited means that I can participate most of the Motorsport events in the region as a qualified Race Official.

Although this second career thing is not getting you any monetary benefits. But it's something to satisfy for those who keen and love this sport. We are not expecting any pay for playing tennis or singing KTV right?

Sun burn, dehydration, sore feet and back. It's definitely a tough and hard work. Gotta be trained, assessed and practiced every year or every role. You gotta love this to motivate yourself to keep doing these year after year.

I love my team and this sport. If someone ask me why I love doing this? If you love this, my answer is not necessary. If you feel nothing about this, you won't able to understand thus my answer is irrelevant.

Into The Wind

Got a chance to meet up one of my friend Captain CS Lee in Italy. And lucky enough to go paragliding with him at Lake Garda. Absolutely a stunning lovely place.

Watched him jumping out of the cliff and glided over the lake did trigger my pulse of doing that too. It seems to be fun and exciting right?

Errr......after a thorough calculation of the total investment of all gears, training courses and practice jumps. I gave up!!

But the scenic of the day was simply amazing. I love the place and would definitely going back for a long vacation at least once in my life.

Bye Daytona......Hello Thruxton

After a few years with my Daytona, its time to say goodbye. Not that because the bike did not served me well nor not performing as good. In fact the Daytona is one of the sweetest sport bike I have ever had.

I love the light weight and I love the 3 cylinders engine. I also love the look so much that I purely enjoy the bike by staring at it.

However the day will come and had came. I am getting old and chicken out before twisting the throttle and leaning around corners. But my neck problem is the sole reason why I let this lovely bike leave me. My damn neck muscle and degenerated C6/7 disc won't support my body to lean over for a proper riding position anymore.

So, here it comes. A Cafe Racer over track fighter is a good transition before I totally give up riding. Moreover, who don't wanna ride like Steve Mcqueen.

Thruxton is a very gentle bike and also enable me to ride in a different style. Now I call myself a rocker and also trying to act like one. No more furious riding but more in style.

King of Cool

An icon for every man, a fantasy for every woman and a legend for every biker. Carrying the name "King of Cool" is not just because his 40+ films. Steve Mcqueen lived out as a real man and set the bench mark of adventurous spirit. He radiated such macho energy. Men wanted to be like him. Uptight society ladies and biker molls wanted to be with him.

Some say he is an actor who race, but for me or other bikers, he is a racer who act. He created a whole new lifestyle for us back from the wonderful 60's and 70's.

I don't intent to tell his story here as most people know who he was and what he did. (If you don't, please google yourself!!) Just a salute to my all time favorite idol on his birthday the 24th March, and remind me how cool he was in "The Great Escape" and "The Magnificant Seven".

A few quotes from him which inspire me of being a real man.

"I live for myself and I answer to nobody."

"When I believe in something, I fight like hell for it."
